Our Approach

What Makes Us Different

To have a lasting academic impact, we believe tutoring should offer students more than content mastery. That's why our tutors begin every session by reinforcing key study skills that students can use throughout their education.

High-Impact, High-Dosage Tutoring

Toolkit Tutors offers school-based tutoring programs based on the High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) model by the EdResearch for Action initiative, which has been shown to significantly improve student learning outcomes. Our programs incorporate 4 key HIT elements:

  • Frequency

Tutoring sessions are held three or more times per week to ensure consistent and intensive support.

  • Group Size

Small group settings capped at four students per tutor, allowing for personalized attention and instruction.

  • Measurement

Continuous use of data and informal assessments to tailor instruction to each student’s needs.

  • Relationships

Ensuring students have a consistent, highly skilled tutor to build strong, supportive relationships that enhance learning.

Study Skills Taught in Every Session

High-impact tutoring programs are a major investment for schools, with funding not always guaranteed. That’s why our tutors begin each session by focusing on a high-leverage study skill that students can use when they are studying independently. Our study skills curriculum is short, sharp, and hits the top 3 skills students need to become confident independent learners.

  • Note-taking

Our tutors will teach your students two research-backed note-taking strategies, and conduct weekly spot-checks and guidance.

  • Time Management

Students will learn how to create a realistic study schedule they can actually stick to. Each week, tutors will help each students review their schedule to ensure remains updated and effective

  • Exam Preparation

As students approach state exams, our tutors will help them develop a game plan that incorporates note-taking, time management, and practice questions to ensure they are fully prepared.

Committed to Quality

For tutoring programs to be effective, students need consistent, highly proficient, and caring tutors. That’s why we invest heavily in recruiting, training, and supporting top talent to ensure your students get the high level of support they deserve.

  • Recruitment

We offer hourly rates in the 95th percentile for part-time tutoring positions, and place a premium on experience.

  • Training

Our tutors receive detailed training to ensure we meet consistently high standards of service across all school sites.

  • Transparency

We share detailed notes from each tutoring session to help teachers and tutors collaborate.
